Rooms and areas as data (names, numbers, areas, uses, occupants) and how a well-structured model gives operations the space data they plan, clean, charge and report with.
Space management is how an organisation plans and uses its rooms and floor area: who sits where, what each space is for, how much it costs, and how full it is. It runs on space data: every room with a number, name, area, use and department. Models contain this data already, if spaces are modelled properly, which is one of the quickest wins BIM can give operations.
Assets are located in spaces; work orders are raised for spaces; cleaning is priced by space area and type; evacuation counts come from occupancy per space. If the model has no spaces, or spaces that don't match the room numbering on site, every one of these processes starts from a manual survey.
