Safety information is information like any other: required, planned, produced, checked and handed over. When the information manager treats it that way, the health and safety file builds itself; when nobody does, it's compiled in a panic at the end.
Health and safety information has its own legal duties and its own people: in the UK, under CDM 2015, the client provides pre-construction information, designers manage design risks, and the principal designer prepares the health and safety file. What those duties often lack is an information plan. That is where the information manager helps.
How designers find and design out hazards is in Designing out hazards; what the file contains and how it is handed over is in Health and safety information at handover. The design risk register is described in the Pedia. This lesson is about making all of that findable.
